laugh it up!

Fill up your plate with fruits and veggies!

Go like the "Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge".........there is a lot of good info that they post, including this one below: (thanks Jennifer for sharing this link)

Food tip of the day: Fill half of your plate with vegetables! This should happen at every meal. Not only do vegetables deliver a boatload of nutrients, they also provide that much needed fiber that keeps you regular and blood sugar levels steady! Do you practice this when you eat?

Challenge Tip: Emotional Overeating

Emotional Overeating is a plague that vexes most of us....I'll be the first to admit that I eat with every emotion I feel.  When I'm sad, I can down an entire bag of oreos, when I'm celebrating I go out to eat and enjoy because "I deserve it!", when I'm lonely, I munch on cheezits (my favorite...they keep me company), when I'm angry, I go out and buy candybars to calm me down.  I could go on and on.  In fact, I'm struggling with emotional overeating during this weight loss challenge too.  That's why I was excited to find this article, and I'm going to be getting the book that she talks about, The End of Overeating.

Here's the article where Jenn, a fitness guru and fitness blogger, details her own struggle with emotional overeating.

My Own End to Overeating

Then after you've read her experience, jump over to this blog post and read 5 tips to Get Out of Your Own Way and Lose the Weight for Good.

Lots of good info and lots to think about!

Our 1st weigh-in is in 2 days!!!!  Are you doing everything you can to make a difference on the scale????

Challenge Tip: Cut the sugar!

High Fructose Corn Syrup is a huge topic of discussion among the nutrition world.  It's found in virtually everything packaged!  But don't take my word for it, read what Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen have to say about this artificial sweetener!

Is High Fructose Corn Syrup bad for you?

You could also read this article and all the insightful comments at the end.  I'm sure the discussions about high fructose corn syrup will continue to go on and on, with people having differing opinions, but for now, I'll stick with the basic facts and cut it out of my family's diet as much as possible.

Just a quick note...

For those of you who wrote a check to me (Krista), I have deposited the money into my account so I can take it out in cash.  I will be putting the prize money in an envelope in my safe to give to our "Weight Loss Challenge" Winner!!!!  So don't be alarmed when your bank statement says that your check has been deposited, it's just so I could take it out in cash and lock it away!  Thanks!

I hope you're all sticking to your diets and getting in your workouts!  Remember, it's all about fueling your body.  Paying attention to when it is hungry, and feeding it the right kinds of foods!

Challenge Tip-gum!

If you are a watcher of "The Biggest Loser" you will know that the trainers are always telling the participants to find other ways to curb their sweet tooth.  One of the ways they told them was to chew gum.....I'm a big fan of "5" gum......so many different flavors to choose from, so few calories.

Whenever I feel like I need that sugar rush, I pop in a piece of gum.  Whenever I just need something to chew on, even if I'm not hungry, I pop in one of these bad boys.

What are some ways or tips you curb your sweet tooth?????

Challenge Tip.....Drink more water!

So with our challenge starting tomorrow, we thought we'd start off right with a tip we've all heard at least once before.....DRINK MORE WATER!  I've always heard that if you're trying to lose weight, you should drink half you body weight in ounces.  So for me, that would be about 85 ounces per day, or 10-11 cups per day.  In this article I'm going to reference, it gives the same advice....drink 8-8 ounce glasses of water a day and for every 25 pounds you have to lose drink an extra 8 ounces.  That would give me (174 pounds) 10 glasses a day!  So how much water should you be drinking per day?????

Read this article......lots of good info!

Drinking Water and Weight Loss

Weight Loss Challenge begins tomorrow!!

This is gonna be fun!!!!  If you've ever needed a support system, this is the one you want.  All of us with one goal in mind, to lose those stubborn pounds that are slowing our lives down!  And if you're anything like me, Krista, you need some motivation and accountability to get it done!

Our first weigh-in is tomorrow morning, 6:15 a.m., at the Crossfit UAC gym (right next to Firehouse Pizza in Providence).  Our weigh-in's will be held at this location every Friday morning at 6:15 a.m.!  We want us all to do it together because there really is a sense of accountability when you weigh-in in front of everyone else.  Bring your $20 pay-in to the weigh-in and let the work (and fun) begin!
